As the founder of PawlorPet, I know how much you want to include your furry family member in every holiday celebration—Christmas included! While the glittering decorations, certain festive plants, and lively gatherings can be risky for our curious feline friends, that doesn't mean they have to miss out on the joy. Here are some safe and delightful Christmas traditions you can share with your cat (just be sure to keep them away from the Christmas tree!).
Create a Holiday Photo Session
If you take festive photos of your human family, why not include your favorite furball? Whether you use these photos for holiday cards, social media, or your personal collection, it can be a fun experience—especially if treats are involved.

Set up a safe, festive photo studio for your cat with cozy Christmas blankets, winter-themed pillows, and plush characters. Most cats enjoy exploring new textures, which may encourage your little model to cooperate. Prepare everything in a separate room and keep it hidden until you're ready—you may only get one chance to capture those natural, curious reactions.
If your cat tolerates outfits, feel free to add a kitty-sized ugly Christmas sweater or a Santa hat, but never force it. The goal is fun for everyone! Use treat rewards to guide your cat onto the set and direct its attention toward the camera.
Hang a Stocking for Your Cat
While the Christmas tree may be off-limits, your cat can still join in the gift-giving fun. Hang a special stocking for your cat beside your own and decorate it just like any other family member’s. Fill it with new toys, favorite treats, catnip, or even a cute accessory if your cat is a fashion lover.
To prevent your cat from raiding the stocking early, consider filling it on Christmas morning—especially if the contents are smelly. Many cats love wrapping paper and may "help" you unwrap loosely wrapped gifts. Be aware, though, that this might encourage them to investigate your presents in the future!
For an extra touch, pin a new holiday photo of your cat to the stocking each year. Just remember to remove the photo and pins before letting your cat explore.
Cozy Christmas Movie Night
Snuggling up with your cat for a festive movie is one of the simplest and coziest ways to share the season. Make the sofa even more inviting with soft blankets and pillows to attract your cat to join you. Offer special treats like shredded cooked chicken or turkey to make the moment extra festive.
You can even choose a cat-themed holiday movie, such as Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever or The Cat Who Saved Christmas, to add to the fun. The key is to create a calm and comforting atmosphere where your cat can enjoy your company and the holiday spirit.
